Scott Sturgeon Obituary

Scott Alan Sturgeon "SSPRO" of Berlin, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, August 16, 2022. Born in Springfield Massachusetts on June 23, 1956. He was the son of Judy (Keegan) Sturgeon and the late Eugene F Sturgeon. Scott attended Berlin High school and earned his associates degree from Tunxis Community College. He then pursued a life-long career in his main passion, golf. Scott began his career in the golf business as an assistant professional at Indian Hill CC, Cliffside CC and Tumble Brook CC before moving on to help build Golfers Warehouse. Scott was the general manager of Golfers Warehouse stores for many years. He developed countless relationships in the golf industry and moved on to be a manufacturer's representative with Mizuno, Adams and Taylor Made among others. Scott remained in the golf business into retirement most recently working at The Country Club of Farmington. Scott loved the outdoors. Aside from golf he loved fishing, skiing, and visiting his favorite places (Enchanted Pond, Little Sebago Lake and many other spots in Maine). Scott was also a music enthusiast who loved to listen to James Taylor and Gordon Lightfoot which continues to live through his children. Scott will be remembered most for his love of his three children, family, close friends, and the golf community. Scott's passion, larger than life personality and overall love for life will forever be missed. He is survived by his three children who he was so proud of, Mathew Alan Sturgeon of Berlin, Jonathan Scott Sturgeon of Terryville, Allison Gene Laroche and her husband Michael Laroche of Plantsville; his mother Judy Sturgeon of South Portland Maine; sister Lori Davis of Bath Maine, brother David Sturgeon and wife Ruth Sturgeon of Lewiston Maine; the mother of his three children Renee Roche of Farmington and her parents and family. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends who he loved very much. Calling hours will be held Sunday, August 28th from 12-3pm concluding with a service at 2:30 at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home of Berlin, 111 Chamberlin Highway. The family then welcomes everyone to attend the celebration of life immediately after at Timberlin Golf Course, 330 Southington Road in Berlin. In lieu of flowers contributions in Scott's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association. To the Sturgeon Family. I am so saddened to hear of Scott's passing. He was my boss (and friend) at Golfers Warehouse many years ago and I have nothing but wonderful memories of our times together. From Christmas party's at his house to his sales calls at Tumble Brook it was always fun to see Sturge! I was so happy to see him not to long ago at Stanley GC and I was looking forward to getting together this summer. I know he would want us to remember him with a smile and a drink so that's exactly what I'll do! Rest in peace my friend!

Dear Sturgeon family,
I had just seen Scott at TCop's golf tournament at Timberlin. It had been a few years since I'd seen him. He looked great and was his gregarious self! We enjoyed catching up from years past. Such an untimely passing teaches us the valuable lesson of how short life is and how quickly one phone call can change your world. I have no doubt he and his Dad are swinging the clubs and catching up. My heart breaks with yours as you now travel life without your son, father and brother. Look for a "sign" that he's still by your side. He can come to you in a song, a strong breeze, a coin found. Somehow, someway, he'll let you know that all is well.

All my love,
Chris

To all of Scott's family and his many friends, please accept my deepest sympathy on his passing. I was very fortunate to have known Scott in High School, especially as a teammate on the golf team. I admired the passion he had for the game, as well as for his family and many friends. He was an incredibly talented player whose camaraderie with all was inspiring. His spirit was infectious. To this day I often think of the many rounds we had together during High School practices under the watchful eyes of our Coach Donald Bates, what great memories. A few of those rounds ending with Scott the high school senior giving me the lowly sophomore a ride home in his green Ford Pinto offering encouragement for the next match. I will never forget those great times. What a wonderful person. Thank you Scott you are in my prayers.

I am so sorry about Scott. I was in my early 20s at tumble Brook when he was a young pro about that time. What a great guy, always enjoyed his company. My father Sam was always very fond of him. May he rest in peace.

I knew Scotty as the little brother of Dave. In a sense he was the little brother of all of our friends in high school. Though I have not talked to him in many years, I remember him as the most upbeat and happy go lucky you could ever talk to. I will miss him.

My deepest condolences for the loss of Scott, he was a great man and a great friend. I first met Scott when I began working at Cabela´s in 2015, he instantly became my work dad. We both left Cabela´s briefly but ended up back working together in 2018. I am an avid fisherwoman myself so Scott was always one of the first people I would run to, to show pictures of my latest catches. He gave me fly fishing advice, relationship advice, and even met my daughter who would always great him with a hug when we would go to visit him at work (after I left Cabela´s in 2020). Scott was generous and thoughtful and was always a listening ear when life got in the way and you needed someone to lay it all out to. He was and always will be one of my favorite people to work with. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, whom he always talked so fondly of.
