Sean Thomas Murphy

Sean Thomas Murphy, M.D., passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025 at the age of 69 surrounded by the love of his family. Sean was a beloved and devoted husband to his wife of 41 years, Carole, and a wonderful father to their two daughters, Katharine and Meghan. Sean grew up in Richland, WA and attended the University of Washington for both his undergraduate degree and medical school. While in his residency at the University of Kentucky in Lexington he met his soulmate Carole and they began their life together. He later moved to the Atlanta area to begin his long career at Kaiser Permanente as a family physician. Sean loved taking care of his patients and especially enjoyed getting to know them as people. He was well respected by his peers and earned recognition as one of Atlanta's Top Doctors for several years.
Outside of work, Sean enjoyed spending time with his family and friends including hosting dinners and game nights. For many years, he enjoyed spending time on Lake Keowee piloting his pontoon boat and wearing his beloved Tilley hat. Traveling was one of his favorite ways of spending time with his family and friends. Ireland and Seattle were his two favorite vacation destinations and he was happy to have been able to visit them frequently.
Sean's family has been fortunate to have heard common messaging from both those who knew him well and those who knew him only briefly, that he was extremely kind, caring and intelligent and will be deeply missed. Sean is survived by his wife Carole, their daughters Katharine (Matthew) and Meghan; his sisters Deborah and Paulette; his brothers Danny (Ann) and Mark; and his stepmother Virginia. His parents, Eugene and Judith, preceded him in death.
Sean's life will be celebrated on Sunday, January 19th, 2025 at Crowell Brothers Funeral Home, 5051 Peachtree Industrial Blvd, Peachtree Corners, GA. His family welcome all those who wish to attend. Visitation will begin at 3:00 pm with the service immediately following at 4:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the Atlanta Humane Society or the World Wildlife Fund.
To those of us who knew him simply as Sean or Dad, the world seems a little less bright but his memory will forever shine on.
