Seferino Carrisalez Obituary
August 26, 1934 – October 29, 2025
Sef was born August 26, 1934, in Bakersfield, California, one of nine children to Bacilio and Carmen Carrisalez. He passed away on October 29, 2025, in Bakersfield, California, at the age of 91.
Sef started his career as a young man working in the cotton fields. He then took a position as a bartender at the Bakersfield Inn, learning the ropes from his Uncle Mateo Adame. Not long after, he and his wife, Mary, became the owners of Cactus Valley Mexican Restaurant. Sef was such a personable bartender and hired the best employees, so after just a few years, the restaurant had to relocate to a larger facility.
Sef loved all sports and could answer trivia regarding any of them. He was an excellent, self-taught golfer - achieving seven hole-in-ones during his lifetime. His favorite professional teams were the Los Angeles Lakers, the Los Angeles Rams, and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
He loved playing baseball and, one of his proudest accomplishments, was the establishment of the Mexican-American Baseball League in Bakersfield. His friends and family are still playing in the League to this day.
He was also a member of the Mexican-American Golf Club and RiverLakes Ranch Golf Course.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mary, his son, Arthur (Pamela), his daughter, Vicki (Steve), and his fur baby, Diego. He also leaves in Jesus' hand five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and six siblings.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Rick, and two siblings.
Visitation and Rosary will take place Tuesday, November 11, 2025, from 5 to 8 p.m. at New Hope Family Worship Center, 710 Terrace Way, Bakersfield, CA. Holy Mass will take place on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 601 E. California Avenue, Bakersfield, CA. Mass will be followed by a burial at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA. A gathering at Hodel's, 5917 Knudsen Drive, Bakersfield, CA, will follow the burial.
In lieu of flowers, feel free to make a donation in Sef's name to your favorite charity or donate to the Bakersfield College Foundation scholarship fund.

I grew up knowing Sef through my mother who he worked with at the Bakersfield Inn. They because friends and both went on to open their own businesses. God Bless all of you and may God comfort you with your memories of Sef.
