With deep sorrow and heartfelt love, we announce the passing of Serop Sahag Andekian, who left this world on July 9, 2025, at the age of 71.

Born on June 21, 1954, in Beirut, Lebanon, Serop was a proud Armenian who carried his heritage with honor and his birthplace in his heart throughout his life. Serop also served in the U.S. Air Force, a period of his life he carried with quiet pride. He later made Philadelphia his home, where he lived most of his life, built a family, and made countless memories.

On May 28, 1978, Serop married his wife Varteny, and together they raised three children: Ankine Mallerdino (married to Jason), Vahan Andekian, and Nazaret Andekian (fiancé Justine Weiss). He was a devoted and playful grandfather to Ashod and Madison, whom he adored deeply. Serop was the beloved son of Deceased Archpriest Der. Sahag Andekian and Eskanouche Andekian, and a cherished brother to Sossy Makdessian and Norik Cohn (married to David). He was a proud Kerri to Avo Makdessian (married to Victoria, with children Alek and Ella) and Sahag Makdessian (married to Helga, with children Ariana, Johnny and Nyree).

A man of humor, warmth, and passion, Serop was known for his big heart and infectious laughter. He brought joy to every room he entered and had a gift for making others smile. He was a die-hard Boston Red Sox fan, a WWE enthusiast, and remained proudly left-handed, always finding ways to turn even the smallest quirks into badges of pride.

Serop, will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, laughter, and cultural pride will live on through his children, grandchildren, and extended family. Services will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Apostolic Church, 8701 Ridge Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19128. Viewing will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by Mass at 11:30 AM. A reception will follow at Maria's Summit Restaurant, 8100 Ridge Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19128. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to St. Gregory's Armenian Apostolic Church in Serop's memory.
