Obituary published on Legacy.com by Northside Chapel Funeral Directors and Crematory on Oct. 22, 2025.
Seton McRae was the family clever one, quick with a quirky smile, the wry eyebrow raised at the perfect time, the white-board doodler extreme(!) at work, and I write this tribute knowing that, like all such tributes, it will only hint at, and hopefully remind us, of what wonderful a person he was during the times we shared with him.
William "Seton" McRae was 59 years old when he passed unexpectedly this Sunday, October 19, 2025. He was born and raised mostly in Alpharetta, GA, where he was currently living in the house our grandfather built with his brothers, the house our Mom spent the last years of her life in, and the house he cared for over the last decade plus. He is survived by his father, Charles McRae, his brother Yan McRae and his sisters, Meredith McRae Robertson and Leslie Price-Bennett. He would be greatly and joshingly "perturbed" if I failed to mention the nieces and nephews he loved so very, very, much: Mackenzie, Jared, Brett and McRae.
A graduate of Georgia Tech, he was incredibly fulfilled and proud of the 30 plus years he worked at Children's Hospital of Atlanta as, most recently, an Outcome Analyst and honorary goofball lifter of spirits! I know this because my inbox is blowing up with so many fun and quirky pictures his coworkers have shared with me, only the tip of a 30 year iceberg! Seton would want all of y'all to know that the feelings are mutual and that he cherished these times. He enjoyed and took pride in knowing his work would help better the medical outcomes of so many children, the bonus was that he was able to work collectively with so many wonderful people to achieve these results. It was a perfect blend, and, after 30 years he still loved his work.
Seton, always curious, enjoyed many passions and pursuits. From Mom, a nurse, he learned love, compassion and fairness for all, and so much more. Dad instilled similar traits, while fostering a joy of wild places and the inhabitants of the natural world, and so much more. He loved birding, hikes and strolls through nature while displaying a keen and creative photographic eye. He loved music, having sung in the Atlanta Boys Choir as a young teen, he later enjoyed his attempt at mastering the guitar as an adult. He became very enamored with fountain pens, collecting a "few" while also developing the exquisite penmanship his collection deserved. He loved to travel, and my favorite trip was our epic 3 week trip to Japan with him, my wife Nanjin, and our friend, Hisae Hayashi! He devoured tons of books, science fiction, fantasy, straight hard science, and so many more. Always curious, always learning.
I could go on, but Seton, the proof reader, would have already shortened this a fair bit. We loved him so much, and he loved so many others, he will be missed more than I can express.
The funeral service will take place Sunday, October 26, 2025. Visitation will begin at 1pm, with a short service to be held starting at 2pm. Flowers are not needed. Seton would be happy with just your presence, or, at most, a small donation to The Nature Conservancy or the Audubon Society of Georgia.
This will be held at:
