Shane was of my acquaintance as his regular golf caddie back in the day at Aronimink Golf Club. Always striving to do better, very focused, and very kind to me. I just went on a random Google search finding old friends, and got this sad news. Rest in Peace, Shane. You will be missed.
I will never forget how, this one day when he was playing in scratch amateur ranking in a qualifier, much like having a pro. He was off to the left of the 16th green, 15 yards out in the trees. He said "What do I do?" with this innocent, nervous look like he really didn't know. I pulled out a 5 iron and showed him a "hooded" technique where he could keep the ball low, out of the enormous tree there, and get some spin on the ball to not run past the putting surface.
He laughed, nervously, and said "Oookay." He stuck the ball four feet off the pin, uphill putt, smiled, said "Thank you." and sunk the par putt.
Thank you, Shane. You made me feel like the real thing. See ya old buddy. Hit 'em good for me up there...
