It is with heavy hearts, yet vibrant hope, that we announce the homegoing of Sharleen Reidy, who departed this earthly realm on May 18, 2025. Born in Elmira, NY, on October 2, 1952, she spent a remarkable 72 years of life touching the hearts of many through her humble, loving, and reliable nature. Sharleen's talent extended far beyond her professional role as Executive Director of the Pregnancy Resource Center of the Valleys, encompassing a myriad of hobbies that included crocheting, embroidery, gardening, baking, photography, reading, camping, and traveling. A beacon of light, Sharleen's contagious smile and laughter could light up any room she entered, and her relentless passion for life was infectious.
A faithful servant of the Lord, Sharleen was deeply involved in various Christian ministries. Her spiritual journey and commitment to sharing the love of Jesus Christ with everyone she met was at the core of her existence, especially after her weekend at Walk To Emmaus #60. When she determined to homeschool her son, Don, she decided to volunteer at the local homeschool co-op and became a vocal and ardent advocate for homeschooling in New York. Her roles as Committee Chair for Homeschool Christian Boy Scout Troop and Cub Scout Pack 413, Weekend Leader and Lay Director of Kairos Outside, a ministry for the female relatives of prison inmates and former female inmates, and a Sponsor for Carlos and Anthony in Honduras with Compassion International were a testament to her unwavering faith. Her service with the Pregnancy Resource Center of the Valleys became her great passion in the last years of her life, where she was faithful and resolved to see the growth and success of the ministry in reaching the families in the communities she served. It is written in the book of Matthew 23:11-12, "The greatest among you will be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted." Sharleen lived by this verse, serving with humility and grace.
Sharleen is survived by her devoted husband, Don Rettberg, Jr.; her son, Don Rettberg III; her stepmother, Pauline Reidy; her brothers, Walter (Diane) Reidy, George Reidy, and John (Ellen) Lee; her sisters-in-law, Desiree Doran and Kim (Bruce) Winters; her brothers-in-law, Jay Rettberg, Craig Rettberg, and Charles (Shari) Leichner; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Sayles; her father, Morris Reidy; her sister, Jeannine Kies; her father-in-law, Don Rettberg Sr.; and her mother-in-law Jo-Ann Rettberg.
