Jody was born on October 18, 1975, in Valdosta, GA. and went home to be with her Lord on May 20, 2025, in Alexandria, LA at the age of 49.
To say Jody was a force of nature is to put it mildly. She was a warrior in all she did and never backed down from anything life threw at her. And there were lots of things thrown at her. Jody faced many challenges growing up, so she put her trust and faith in God at an early age. As she grew up, so did her love for Him. Her favorite thing to do was worship her Daddy God and the solace in knowing she is at His feet, doing that now, is a tremendous blessing and comfort to her loved ones. She is reunited with family and friends that she missed dearly. She is home.
Jody had medical issues preventing her from carrying a baby to term and lost 6 precious children, which broke her heart, but not her spirit. She decided on being a foster parent and poured love into 9 kids over the years. That is where she met Tina, her oldest daughter. They formed a deep bond that has lasted a lifetime. Then God blessed her first with the miracles of Gracee, then later with Claire. They, and Tina, were her heart. Never was there a Mama bear as fierce over her cubs as Jody. Then when her 2 granddaughters came along, it went into a deeper level. There was nothing and no one, she wouldn't fight for her babies. Even in the last few years, when the curveballs life threw at her kept her in and out of the hospital, she never once faltered for all her girls. Never. She loved them more than anything on Earth till her last breath.
Jody was a devoted mother, but she was also so much more. She was a loving wife, fantastic sister (and sister-in-law), devoted daughter, amazing aunt, the best friend you could have, and a hard worker. Jody was smart as a whip and when she decided to go back to college in her 40s to get her master's degree, she excelled in school. She was pursuing a Doctorate before life and health forced her to postpone that goal, but there is no doubt she would have accomplished that when she became able to. She wore many hats and wore them well, but the one she was proudest of was Follower of Christ. And because of that, we rejoice that she is in Heaven dancing and singing, free of pain, where we will meet her again.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Dock O'Steen, Jr. and Joan Barrentine Transue; grandparents, Elmer Barrentine, Juanita Barrentine, Dock O'Steen, Sr. and his wife Francis; and her six unborn children.
Survivors include her husband, George "Tim" McDaniel; daughters, Tina Doerr and her husband Matt of Nebraska, Maddison McDaniel of Baton Rouge, Gracee Dimmitt of Leesville, and Claire McDaniel of Leesville; brother, Jack O'Steen and his wife Christina of Hot Springs, AR; grandchildren, Madilyn Doerr, and Amelia Doerr; nephews, Jonathan O'Steen and his wife Aniston and Jeremiah O'Steen and his wife Justis, both of Texarkana; aunt, Ann Young and husband Billy; uncles, Frank O'Steen and Wendell Barrentine and his wife Joyce; she is also survived by nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
