Sharon Kay Benton, age 81, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on November 10, 2025, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.
She was born on March 17, 1944, at St. Mary's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Thomas Ragan Benton and Arlene (Marcum) Benton. Sharon participated in many organizations during her youth life including 4-H with Oxford Hustlers. Sharon graduated from Olathe High School with the Class of 1962. She went on to attend Kansas State University, earning her bachelor's degree in 1966. While at K-State Sharon was a member of the Alpha Chapter of Clovia 4-H Scholarship House and made many close life long friends. After college Sharon taught Physical Education in the school system for two years. She remained a dedicated K-State supporter throughout her life.
Sharon served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era, serving three years as an Officer. Her assignments took her to Pensacola, Florida; Memphis, Tennessee; and Norfolk, Virginia. Following her naval service she worked for a contracting company as Education Specialist for the Navy. The structure and discipline she gained from military service shaped her independent way of life. She approached her work with consistency and a straightforward work ethic.
In 2017, Sharon moved to Guest Home Estates in Garnett, Kansas, and has lived in Garnett for the past seven years.
Sharon was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Ragan Benton and aunt, Donna Reynolds.
Sharon will be missed by her mother Arlene Benton; brothers, Timothy and wife Patty Benton, Ron and wife Sharon Benton; nieces, Tana and Julie Benton; nephews, Brian and wife Kirsten Benton and Garrett and wife Ruthie Benton, Thomas and wife Allison Benton; great- nieces Elsie and Sophie Benton and great-nephews, Daniel, Tate, and Luke Benton.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Garnett. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Garnett Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas 4-H Foundation and left in the care of the funeral home. Condolences for the family can be left at www.feuerbornfuneral.com.
