Sharon Iva Brooks, born on April 30, 1944, in Morgantown, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2025. She was a vibrant and spirited individual who touched the hearts of many with her infectious enthusiasm for life and her unwavering love for family and friends.
Sharon dedicated many years to her career as a bartender, where she not only honed her craft but also formed countless friendships along the way. Known as the life of the party, she was always up for a celebration and adored every opportunity to spread joy and laughter. Her playful nature was matched only by her love for playing cards, a pastime that brought her great pleasure and camaraderie.
Educated at George Washington High School, Sharon carried a strong sense of community and connection throughout her life, creating bonds that would last a lifetime. She was a beloved sister, aunt, and grandmother, cherished by those who knew her.
Sharon is survived by her loving sister, Charlotte Burtzo; her sister, Ellen Hitchel; and her adoring nieces, Sheila Neil (Hal) and Denise Cocco (Tim). She also leaves behind her nephew, David Burtzo (Sherri), and her grandchildren: Peter Pierson (Gina), Lee Hitchel, and Trevor Nelis. Additionally, Sharon found joy in her role as a great-grandmother to Isaac Pierson and Kendall Pierson.
Sharon was predeceased by her daughter, Rae Sue Nelis; her son, Charles Maddux; her mother, Maerine Brooks; her father, Herbert Fuller; her step-father, D.C. Woodcock; and her brother, Delbert Woodcock. Although her physical presence may be gone, her spirit and vibrant energy will remain alive in the hearts of those who loved her.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Sharon's life at Indiana Funeral Care - Greenwood Chapel, located at 2433 E. Main St., Greenwood, IN 46143. The visitation will take place on August 20, 2025, from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:30 PM. A graveside service will then be held at Calvary Cemetery, located at 435 West Troy Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46225, starting at 3:30 PM.
Sharon Iva Brooks will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
