Sharon Coleen Clausen, 80, died Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at her home in Cheyenne, Wyoming surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with renal and kidney disease.
Sharon was born on Friday, June 30, 1944 in
Douglas, Wyoming, to Bonnie Lucielle Moyer (nee Castle) and William Edward Moyer. Sharon was raised by Lucielle and her second husband, Arthur Donald "Don" Exley, alongside her five siblings from their union. She was raised in Douglas and attended Converse County High School until her marriage in 1960 to Charles L. Davies. To this union Don, Charles, Michael, and Johnathan were born. After the unexpected death of Charles in 1969, Sharon married Fred Clausen in 1970. Together, they welcomed Christina and Anita. After Fred finished college at the University of Wyoming, the family moved around the state. The family finally settled in Douglas in 1973 where Sharon became an avid bowler and coach for the Young American Bowling Alliance (YABA), much to the chagrin of her daughters.
During her years in Douglas, Sharon became a fixture of the community. She could often be found at one of three places: Ranchero Lanes Bowling Alley, the family-owned Bumper-to-Bumper Auto Parts, or the Douglas Raceway. Sharon cherished her time spent playing card games, a love passed down from her grandparents and aunts. Many of her fondest memories took place at her Grandma Castle's or Aunt Della's home, playing and mastering games with her cousins, siblings, aunts, and children. In 1987, the family relocated to Cortez, Colorado. Sharon continued her passion of bowling and received the honor of bowling a perfect 300 game. Sharon also volunteered at the hospital and in hospice care, as well as joined the Beta Phi Sorority. Sharon also loved to travel with her husband, Fred, and family. One of her many favorite locations was Hawaii and in 2010, she and Fred renewed their vows in front of family on the island of Kauai for their 40th anniversary. Las Vegas was another of her favorite locations, whether spending her birthdays with her good friend, Jan Schwartzkopf and husband, Bob, or New Year's Eve with close friends Geniel and Darrell Burke. Sharon also had a unique bond with her granddaughter, Nicolle, who joined her grandparents on several vacations and adventures over the years including a two-week Western Canadian trip.
Sharon is survived by her devoted husband, Fred Clausen, of Cheyenne; brothers, Dean Exley of Parachute, Colorado and Danny Exley of Casper, Wyoming; sisters, Rose Thompson of Evansville, Wyoming and Karol Blake of Douglas; her children, Don (Kimber) Clausen of Sturgis, South Dakota, Charles D. Davies of Greeley, Colorado, Christina (Adam) Bellinger of Waterloo, New York, and Anita (Shawn) Overgaard of Severance, Colorado; grandsons, Conan Clausen, Tannyn Clausen, Ryan Flynn, and Matthew Overgaard; as well as granddaughters, Amanda Davies, Nicolle Truett, Shyann Lenoir, Elizabeth Bellinger, and Annika Overgaard. She is also survived by thirteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Lucielle Exley; brother, Kevin Exley; first husband, Charles L. Davies; sons, Michael E. Davies and Johnathan E. Davies; grandson, Charles C. Davies; and granddaughter, Tristiny S. Clausen.
