Sharon Jean Crow

Sharon Jean Winklepleck Crow, age 80, died peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones on Sunday, February 4th, 2024. She was born in Denver, Colorado on October 11th, 1943, to Milton Leroy Winklepleck and Anna Lucille Hoke Winklepleck.

She spent her childhood in Denver with the beautiful Rocky Mountains as her playground and moved to Pomona, California, during her early teen years. She loved the beautiful ocean, palm trees, and balmy weather of Southern California. Sharon graduated from Ganesha High School in Pomona, California, in June of 1961.

Sharon married David Anthony Crow on August 28th, 1964. Their love was sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This year, David and Sharon would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Their marriage was full of joy, laughter, respect for one another, and service to others.

Sharon and David graduated together on the same day in 1965 from Brigham Young University. They both majored in Education and went on to teach elementary and junior high school for 63 cumulative years. Sharon taught 5th grade for one year before her four children were born. Later, she taught 1st and 3rd grades for another twenty-two years. She had a great love of teaching and enjoyed mentoring other teachers and touching the lives of many students. Her classroom was a peaceful and loving place, but was also full of fun and excitement. She earned the respect of students, parents, and fellow teachers alike. She was honored many times for excellence in teaching.

Sharon's family was the highlight of her life. She enjoyed loving and nurturing them as they grew and eventually spread their own wings, metaphorically speaking. Her greatest friends were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She had a toy closet, which all of the grandchildren would race toward each time they came to visit her!

She sought excellence in all aspects of her life and encouraged her children and grandchildren to strive to do their best to reach their highest potential. She tried to leave the world a better place than she found it. She tried to be a source of strength and Christlike love to all around her.

Upon retirement, Sharon and David moved from their home of twenty-eight years in Orem, Utah, to Riverton, Utah, closer to three of their four children and their families. They greatly enjoyed the additional, precious time that they could spend with their family. They also enjoyed camping trips and traveling with family members.

Sharon was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her faith in and love of Jesus Christ contributed to a peace that steadied and strengthened her as she met the challenges of life. She served in many leadership positions and teaching callings in the Church, but her favorite calling was serving as a visiting teacher to sisters within her congregation.

She is survived by her husband, David; children, Lisa (Scott), Lori, Brian (Elizabeth), and Eric (Tia); fourteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Debbie and Joan, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at the Riverton 9th Ward chapel, located at 2750 West 13400 South, Riverton, UT 84065. There will be a viewing from 9:45 AM to 10:45 AM, and the funeral will start at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at 1:00 PM at the Highland City Cemetery, located at 6200 West 11000 North, Highland, UT 84003.
