Sharon Dobson Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Craddock Funeral Home on Mar. 2, 2022.
Sharon Louise Dobson was born February 17th 1948 in Ada, OK. Sharon was the only child of Marion Connie (Miller) and Harold Andrew Lund. She passed from this life on February 21, 2022 in Ardmore, OK at the age of 74.
As the daughter of an oilfield hand, she was raised in Southern Oklahoma, East Texas, Southern Louisiana, and graduated high school in Casper, Wyoming. After writing a Dear John letter to her high school sweetheart, Dennis Spawn, she married her first husband and father of her children, Rick Dobson, in 1966. They moved to Southern Oklahoma in 1969 and were divorced in 1976.
Always in search of a good dance partner, she would marry Earl "Sonny" Reed at an impromptu Cajun wedding on the bayou in Louisiana in 1978. Nearing her self-imposed limit of 10 years in any one marriage, she and Sonny were divorced in 1986. Never a person to concede defeat, she rekindled the romance with her first sweetheart, Dennis Spawn, and they were married in 1988 in Casper, Wyoming. Hearing the jangle of opportunity and video poker machines, she and Dennis moved to Las Vegas in 1989 and, in adherence to her established tradition, they were divorced in 1994.
Sharon began her career in real estate in the late 1970s at Red Carpet Realty. Always a source of good ideas, she opened her first real estate brokerage Century 21 Clark, Reed, & Stewart in 1980. Eventually, this brokerage would become Century 21 Clark & Reed. With the help of her partner, Margaret Clark, they served the Southern Oklahoma market and gave many of today's top agents and brokers an entry to and training in the real estate business, which was an experience that Sharon was fond of proudly recounting to anyone who would listen. Sharon had a passion for being in the middle of the action and served on the Southern Oklahoma Board of REALTORS in various capacities including multiple terms as the President of the Board.
After selling her interest in Century 21 Clark & Reed in 1987, she moved to Casper, Wyoming. There, at Casper College, she would finish her Associates Degree in Business and Economics before moving to Las Vegas in 1989. In Las Vegas, Sharon started working in the mortgage banking industry. Always committed to finding a way to accomplish the task at hand, Sharon experienced great success in the lending business, but returned to Ardmore, Oklahoma to assist with her aging parents in 1996. There she would continue to work in mortgage lending before she was enticed back into the real estate business and opened her second brokerage, Caldwell Banker Daube, Dobson, & Miller in the late 90s. In the early 2000s she helped her mother and greatest fan, Marion, build Red Door Storage. Here she opened her third brokerage firm, Sharon Dobson Realty. When she was later joined by family members in the real estate business, the name of the brokerage was changed to Dobson Realty Group.
As the self-reported Queen of Self Indulgence, she frequently stated she could resist anything except for a good time. Sharon enjoyed dancing, swimming, archery, hunting, playing roller hockey, a heavy hand when pouring a drink, and, apparently, lying about smoking cigarettes to her children and caretakers. She appeared to have an endless supply of rabbits residing in hats and would invariably pull one out when a challenge presented itself. While a perpetual seeker and finder of jackpots, she claimed to have refrained from placing a bet for the last 7 years of her life.
Sharon will be missed by her family, friends, and colleagues for her passion for her work, as an endless source of knowledge of how to accomplish the seemingly impossible real estate transaction, and her ability to bend reality, or at least her memory of the events, to her will.
She is survived by her two sons, John Vincent Dobson II and his wife Kristi; and Sean Andrew Dobson and his wife Nyki; grandchildren Amelia Dobson-Coy, Riley Andrew Dobson, John Ashton Dobson, John Vincent Dobson III, Alex Breshears, Miranda Bellavigna, and Taryn Daniel; and great grandchildren August Andrew Coy, Weston Alan Vaughn, and Gracelyn Rae Bellavigna.
The family wants to extend thanks to the many caregivers who have attended Sharon in the last few years. The numerous nurses, attendants, and representatives of Mercy Home Health and Elmbrook Suites persistently sought to deliver a high standard of care to an often stubborn and reluctant patient to whom they, none the less, attended with patience and love. Henryetta Skinner deserves special mention, was Mom's Girl Friday, and endured longer and more than most any other. We can't adequately express our gratitude for their service.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, February 26th at 2:00 p.m. with Daniel Oyler officiating at the Craddock Memorial Chapel.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, those that wish to contribute to the National Council on Problem Gambling at www.ncpgambling.org.
