Sharon A. Erickson, 84 of Humboldt, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, August 14, 2024 at Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge.
Sharon Ann Madsen was born in a small farmhouse in Corinth Township (Humboldt, Iowa) on March 23, 1940, to Stanley and Mildred (DeSmidt) Madsen. While attending Bradgate High School, where she later graduated in 1958, she met the love of her life, Gary Matthew Erickson. They were later married at the Rutland Trinity Lutheran Church on October 19, 1958, soon after making their home on a farm in Humboldt.
Sharon worked for Hood’s Super Value and Hy-Vee meeting many people over the years and making lasting friendships. She loved to sew and eventually turned that passion into beautiful quilts and table runners for her family and friends.
Gary and Sharon were blessed with two daughters; Susan Marie and Gail Ann. Sharon enriched her daughter’s lives by being their role model, their loving mother and their friend! She chaperoned numerous band and chorus trips, was their avid basketball fan and carried that through into her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sports and dance events. Sharon taught her daughters how to love, how to respect, how to serve and how to live!
Sharon and Gary served Meals on Wheels, always taking time to stop and talk to the people they served. She also worked at the polls assisting voters with the election process. Sharon was a member of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary as well as serving in leadership roles. She was involved in Hospice and enjoyed her role as a part time caregiver. Sharon was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church where she served on various committees, such as The Fall Harvest Supper and the Quilt Clubs.
Sharon is survived by her husband of 65+ years, Gary M. Erickson; her daughters Susan (Rick) Day of Davenport, Gail Erickson (Ron Ringsdorf) of Johnston; five grandchildren; Amanda (Matt) Hanson, Brad (Ashley) Day, Melissa (Daniel) Grandon, Matthew (Erin) Erickson and David Nelson, eight great-grandchildren; Dylan, Darren, Gabby, Cooper, Brooklyn, Angie, Josh and Valerie, her sister Francie Calligan of Derby, Kansas, her brother Bob Madsen of Fort Dodge and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 17th at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service in Humboldt.
