Sharon K. Garcia, 80, of
Kirkland, Ill., formerly of Kingston, passed away peacefully Sunday, Feb. 25, 2024, at home, surrounded by her family.
Born Jan. 9, 1944, in Belvidere, the daughter of Clarence and Marie (Moberg) Magee, Sharon had beautiful blue eyes and a heart of gold, the fifth of their seven children who were raised in Kingston. She was a graduate of Genoa-Kingston High School and later attended Kishwaukee Community College, becoming a CNA.
Sharon married her sweetheart Fortunato Garcia on Dec. 2, 1961, in Kingston. They made their home in Illinois, as well as in southern Texas, having six daughters.
A member of St. Catherine of Genoa Catholic Church in Genoa, Sharon was an intelligent and patient person. She was brave spirit with a gentle soul. She enjoyed going to the boat and the entertainment of scratch-off lottery tickets. She had the strength to carry herself with grace through unimaginable situations, while inspiring those around her.
Sharon enjoyed going out dancing with her husband before his passing in 2013. Her grandchildren were a big source of love and happiness; she enjoyed watching their baseball games. She immensely enjoyed her beautiful great-grandchildren. She also was a fan of the Cubs and loved cooking, especially making her special hot sauce. Sharon loved to sew, making clothes for the girls when they were little. She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, and playing the lottery and slots. She was very funny and good hearted, and worked as a local election judge. Sharon had an incredible memory and knew lots of facts.
Sharon had a second family, the hospital team and her patients at Vencor/Kindred Hospital Sycamore from 1995 to 2011, retiring as staffing coordinator. She held a number of positions over the years, but was most well-known was being "Mom" to her Kindred family. She was kind, comforting, understanding, and full of compassion. She was a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, empathetic, and encouraged people to their full potential, and above all-she loved them.
Sharon is survived by her daughters, Tina (Bob) Szpekowski, Teresa (Gin) Fitzgerald, Amanda (Dan) Fisher and Alice Garcia; her adopted daughter, Toni Garcia, the daughter of Sharon's late daughter, Debbie; grandchildren, Presley, Jonnie, Kennedy, Danny, Kendell, Cooper, Dominic, Eve, and Nate; great-grandchildren, Xavier, Aviannah and Isaiah; and siblings, Barb (Don) Sebby, Bill and Leslie Magee and Dave (Lorri) Magee; and many nieces and nephews.
