Sharon Kay (Wasserbeck) Gilbert, 77, of Marysville, passed away Friday, July 19, 2024 at Bluebird Retirement Community surrounded by her loving family, following a long, hard fought battle with Parkinson’s disease. 

A 1964 graduate Richwood High School, she played in the marching and concert bands. She was also a member of the Richwood Jr. Fair board and active in 4H. After high school, she worked briefly for the Marion Power Shovel and then for 33 years with the Union County Probate and Juvenile Court, retiring as the Chief Deputy Clerk. A woman of deep faith, she was Baptized and Confirmed at the Green Camp United Church of Christ. A longtime and very active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and School, she was the first female to be elected, and to serve as the Congregation / Council President. She also served as assistant Sunday school superintendent, taught Sunday school, served as the church’s newsletter editor, sang in the choir, was a member of the women’s circle groups, along with serving in various other roles for the church. A 4-H advisor for the Scissors and Sandwiches Club for over 35 years, she was also formerly the Dean of Women at Camp Clifton 4-H camp. An accomplished cake baker and decorator, she prepared her beautiful cakes, yet most importantly, delicious, cakes for hundreds of weddings and special events over the years. In her free time, she enjoyed scrapbooking, listening to the Gaither Vocal Band and spending time with her family, especially watching her granddaughter in her many activities. 

Born July 23, 1946 in Marion, she was the daughter of the late Ernie and Norma (Imbody) Wasserbeck. On May 2, 1965 at Trinity Lutheran Church, she married her loving husband of over 51 years, Marvin C. Gilbert, and he preceded her in death on September 6, 2016. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan James Gilbert; and her brothers and sisters -in-laws, Larry Joseph, James Gilbert, Robert (Velma) Gilbert and Clara Gilbert.

She is survived by her son, Brad (Tara) Gilbert of Marysville: granddaughter, Emma Gilbert of Marysville; a sister, Annie Joseph of Prospect; nieces and nephews, Jason (Jenny) Joseph of Dublin, Kathy Christy, Rusty (Heather) Gilbert, and Bobby (AJ) Gilbert, all of Springfield MO; great nephews, Drew and Tyler Joseph; a great niece, Katy Joseph, all of Dubin, sister-in-law Marge Gilbert of Lima; and many other great nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and church family. 

Services to Celebrate Sharon’s Life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Reverend Angie Storer will officiate and burial follow at the Oakdale Cemetery beside her husband, Marvin. Friends may call from 5:00-8:00 P.M. Monday, July 22, 2024 at the church. If desired, memorial contributions can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Chapel Hill House, a retreat for families whose children are battling cancer and was founded by her sister and brother-in-law.
