Sharon Kay Kivel, of Spring, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, following a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 75. A fighter from the beginning, she was born a twin in Houston, Texas on December 10, 1948 to parents, Fred and Alline Wetherell.
Raised in the Houston area, Sharon met the love of her life, James "Jimmy" Kivel, in Pasadena in 1972. Jimmy was instantly smitten by her sassy personality and witty sense of humor, and after a two-week whirlwind romance, the couple married and began their life together. She spent the next 50 years devoted to raising her children and grandchildren and building a home for them. Sharon loved her family dearly and was fiercely protective of them. She was outspoken and direct concerning her passions and was also very patient, kind, and forgiving.
Sharon loved watching the Houston Astros, but her happiest moments were spent on a ball field watching her own children and grandchildren play. After Jimmy retired, the two of them enjoyed going on adventures together such as day trips to casinos, fishing trips in Galveston, and Caribbean cruises.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Fred Wetherell, and her granddaughter, Chloe Kelley.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 52 years, Jimmy Kivel; son, Brian Kivel and his wife Lora, and their children: Jeremy, Justin, and Logan; son, Kevin Kivel and his wife Crystal, and their children and grandchild: Hayli, Joshua, Dakota, and CJ; son, Donnie Kivel and his partner Lorri, and their children: Kaylee, Nathen, and Nathaniel; daughter, Alissa Kelley and her husband James, and their children: Connor and Corbin; her siblings: Judy Stanford, Donald Wetherell, Shirley Schoenfeldt, Ray Wetherell, Michael Wetherell, Lynette Smith, and Sharla Eggert; along with many other relatives and countless friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, August 30, 2024 at McNutt Funeral Home located at 1703 Porter Road in Conroe, Texas, with visitation for family and friends beginning at 9:00 am.
