Sharon Lynn Metevia, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away peacefully at home on January 19, 2025, at the age of 76. She was born in Bay City, Michigan on July 1, 1948, to the late Earl Ernest and Ellen Alice Alma (Meyer) Mielens. Sharon was a graduate of Bay City Central High School class of 1966. She started her career as a nurse, but then devoted her time and passion to raising her family. Sharon loved entertaining and spending time in her kitchen making countless cookies, desserts, rolls, and birthday and wedding cakes for family and friends. In addition to her culinary passion, she had a love for gardening and working in her flower beds, family vacations, and time spent at the family cabin in Mio. Sharon was a longtime active member and faithful servant at Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was involved in several ministries including the Beautification Committee, Choir, Fellowship, and Friendship Guild.
Sharon is survived by her husband and love of her life of 54 years, Dennis J. Metevia, whom she married on May 15, 1971. She also leaves her children: Aric J. (Renee) Metevia, Tara L. (Patrick) Burley, and Jason L. (Kelly) Metevia, her brother Ronald (Chris) Mielens, her sisters: Judy (Ron) Black, Laurie (Mike) Allison, Gail (Tom) Alvesteffer and Sherry Mielens, her grandchildren: Nathan Metevia, Mason Burley, Katelyn Metevia, Cooper Burley, Madelyn Burley, Brielle Metevia, and Blaire Metevia, and her sisters-in-law Betty VanPelt and Sheron Metevia. She was preceded in death by brothers-in-law Burt VanPelt and Rogers Metevia, sister-in-law Sandra Rigg, nephews Richard Rigg, Joe Rigg, and Brett Alvesteffer, and niece Debbie Thomas.
Visitation will be on Thursday, January 23, 2025, from 1 to 8 p.m. at Penzien-Steele
Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bay City. The Rev. Chris Garcia will officiate with burial to follow at Floral Gardens Cemetery. She will lie in state at the Church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the service begins. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Bay City.
