William Joseph Metevia, known to everyone as Bill, was born on November 16, 1942, in Bay City, Michigan. He departed from us on September 3, 2023, leaving a legacy of dedication, hard work, love of family, friends, and animals.
William was a graduate of Penn State University, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and Michigan Technological University. He dedicated his career to the electric industry, working as a Nuclear Engineer, first for the Yankee Atomic Electric Company and later for Duke Energy. His intellect and passion for his work were evident in his successful career. However, it was not just his professional life that demonstrated his tenacity and talent. William was a man of many hobbies, ranging from boating, reading, woodworking, blacksmithing, and repairing and rebuilding old tractors. He enjoyed puttering in his shop making small pieces of furniture and wooden toys for family members, spending time with his grandchildren and going to engine shows to add to his collection of vintage tools and equipment.
William is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Stapelfeld Metevia. He also leaves his two daughters, Lori Keaveney-Metevia and Jennifer Montgomery-Metevia; two step-daughters, Elizabeth Cook-Griffith and Amy Cook-Ivey; five grandchildren, Sean Michael Keaveney, Jacob Michael Keaveney, Jordan Elise Ivey, Savannah Ashby Griffith, and William Bailey Griffith; one brother, Jim Metevia; two sisters, Susanne Brinn and Carolyn Metevia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Arline Metevia. William's absence will indeed be deeply felt by all who were fortunate to know him.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023, from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. in Mack Family Funeral Homes, 105 Central Street, Gardner, Massachusetts, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. We invite those who knew William to continue his legacy by sharing their memories, stories, and photographs on his memorial page. His spirit continues to live on in the hearts and minds of those who loved him. Let us remember William not only for the life he lived but also for the lives he touched.
