Sharon Kay Morton, 68, a lifelong resident of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, December 8, 2024, after a brief battle with cancer.

Sharon was born October 2, 1956, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, to the late Curtis and Anna (Sourjohn) Cole. She attended Tahlequah schools and got her nursing degree at Bill Willis Skill Center in Tahlequah, all while raising 4 small children and working double shifts.

Sharon had a passion for taking care of others. She began her 47-year career in elder care, then pediatrics and finally retired from the Cherokee Nation Ga-du-gi Employee Clinic where she was often referred to as “the best shot giver, ever”. Since her retirement, her passion became taking care of her beloved fur baby, Leni. She made sure Leni had a new dress for every holiday, and loved spoiling her rotten with burgers, corn dogs, or Del Rancho chicken sandwiches.

She was an avid OU football and softball fan, which probably stemmed from her tomboy childhood of running barefoot on rocks, climbing trees in her Sunday School dresses and playing softball herself. Sharon loved her time spent with family, she enjoyed camping trips, floating the Illinois River, dancing in the kitchen with the love of her life, telling stories and laughing until everyone’s sides hurt. She had a very distinctive laugh; her kids could always find her in a crowded store if they just stopped and listened. Her grandbabies and great grandbabies brought her so much joy. She loved showing off her newly acquired photos she stole from everyone’s Facebook.

Sharon was also known for her love of gardening, hummingbirds and let’s not forget her love of Lay’s Potato Chips and root beer. She considered her family size bag as breakfast, or even just a snack.

She enjoyed attending Generations Church in Tahlequah.

She was preceded in death by her parents Curtis and Anna Cole; brother, Coleman Sourjohn; sister, Karen Stromp; father and mother in-laws, Ace and Delphine Morton; and granddaughter, Kymberly Hellweg.

Sharon is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Gerry Morton whom she married May 19, 1990; her children, Greg Clinton and his wife Kim, Galela Birdwell and her husband Brad, Bobby Morton, Gwen Sanders and her husband Bryan, Charles Johnson and Rachael Washington, and Amber Morton; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of a funeral service, a public viewing will be held on Friday, December 13, 2024, from 1:00-7:00 PM, at Hart Funeral Home in Tahlequah, OK.
