Sharon Erwin Nelson, age 69, of Pine Bluff, passed away Friday, September 19, 2025 in Plano, Texas.
Born in Pine Bluff on April 27, 1956, she was the daughter of the late William Edward Erwin and Werdna Lucille Vent Erwin. She graduated from Chapel Academy in 1974 and earned a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
Sharon worked in public schools for many years. While working as a teacher's aide for Watson Chapel School District, she earned her college degree and teaching certificate. She began her career as a teacher in 2011 working for the Pine Bluff School District as a 1st grade teacher. She then moved to work for the Watson Chapel School District as a kindergarten teacher before retiring in 2018 to complete a 22-year career in education.
Sharon accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior in 1980 and joined Grey Road Missionary Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee. After moving back to Pine Bluff, she was a long-time member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church where she was very active, serving in the choir and as a teacher. More recently, she was a member of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church in McKinney, Texas.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Ronnie Erwin and Dennis Erwin.
Survivors include her children, Mark Nelson (Susan) of McKinney, Texas, Clay Nelson (Racheal) of Little Rock, and Jamie Nelson of Benton; five grandchildren, Brody Green, Madeline Nelson, Kinsley Nelson, Liam Nelson, and Layton Nelson; her sister-in-law, Piper Erwin of Woodlawn; and her sweet caretaker at the end, Mrs. Fortunate of Plano, Texas.
Visitation will be Saturday, September 27, 2025, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Fuller Hale-South Funeral Chapel. Sharon's funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Brother Howard Loetscher and Brother Kevin Clinton officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
