Sharon Ann Platz

Sharon Ann Platz, of Punta Gorda, FL, passed away on March 16, 2025, and was born June 22nd, 1945 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Helen and Harold Shafer (Garrett, IN). She passed away peacefully on March 16th, 2025 with her family around her at home in Punta Gorda, Florida. She was reunited with the love of her life Larry Platz, who preceded her in death in 2022. She is survived by her daughter Christine (Christopher) Parent, her son Kevin Platz, three grandsons Joseph (Emily) Parent, Jacob Parent, and Jesse Platz, Great granddaughter Gwendolyn Parent, brother Don (Maggie) Shafer, sister Karen Moyer, brother-in-law Robert Platz, and 3 sisters-in-laws Judy Platz, Eileen Platz, and Bonnie Platz. She also had a brother-in law that preceded her in death David Platz.

Sharon grew up in Garrett, Indiana, she graduated from Garrett High School in 1963, and moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, after her and Larry were married on April 16th, 1966. She worked at the Patterson-Fletcher Department store in the accounts receivable department. Shortly after her children were born, she worked in a beauty shop and babysat for other families. From 1979 to 2003, Sharon worked as a dishwasher, salad bar cashier, and head baker at North Side High School. In 2003, Sharon and Larry moved to Punta Gorda, Florida, and she took a position as a baker at Charlotte High School. She was then promoted to head baker at Deep Creek Elementary School, where she happily worked from 2005 until her retirement in 2020. As head baker, she enjoyed seeing all the kids at school, especially her grandchildren.

Sharon loved to sew and crochet in her spare time. She also loved cooking, baking, and making candy with her grandchildren. Sharon was admired for her strength and kindness. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her. Celebration of life service in Indiana will be held at Trinity English Lutheran Church
