Sharon Rae Ratcliffe, age 83, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family in West Jordan on July 14, 2024, of natural causes. She was born on March 15, 1941, to Joseph James and Verbena Lovendahl Nielsen in West Jordan, Utah.
Sharon married the love of her life, Larry Kondor, in 1966. They had a son and constructed a new house together. Her heart was broken when Larry suddenly passed away in 1969 when her firstborn was only two years old. Sharon later remarried in 1974, and three years after that had her second son. She spent most of her years as a stay-at-home mom raising her two boys. Sharon went through a divorce and went back to work while raising her second son, now a teenager. Once she retired in 2003, she focused all of her attention on her grandchildren, who were the absolute joy of her life. She loved all 8 grandchildren with only the love a grandmother could give, which is the purest kind.
Sharon was so kind to everyone she met. Everyone knew her. It was impossible to go to the store or a restaurant without anyone recognizing her. She loved and cared for so many. She always instructed you to be kind and befriend everyone. It was not uncommon for her to buy a pair of shoes or socks for someone that needed them. She always said there are very few things better in life than a new pair of socks, shoes and of course ice cream.
Sharon was a survivor. In 1999, she battled breast cancer, and although it required a partial mastectomy, she won! The cancer never returned. She also had many other health challenges requiring major surgeries that she battled and eventually conquered. In the end, her spirit was strong, but her body had grown weak over time. She will be remembered for her unwavering strength and positivity in the face of adversity and at times, insurmountable odds.
Sharon is survived by her children Charles Edward Kondor and Ryan Mark (Sylvia) Ratcliffe; 8 grandchildren Dalton (Jaylynn) Kondor, Dakota (Riley) Kondor, Wyatt Kondor, Amyllia (Zack) Miller, Aryana Ratcliffe, Jaron Ratcliffe, Dylan Ratcliffe, and Abigail Ratcliffe; 1 great-granddaughter Charlie Rae Kondor; siblings Linda (Russ) Stevenson, Wayne (Susan) Nielsen, and Shawna Freston.
Sharon is preceded in death by her parents, husband Larry Kondor, brother Denis Nielsen, and sister Joan Draper.
Funeral services will be held on Friday August 2, 2024, 12:30 P.M. at the Mountain Shadows 3rd Ward Chapel, 8136 South Old Bingham Hwy, West Jordan, UT 84088. A viewing will be held at 10:30 A.M. preceding the funeral service. Graveside services and interment will be held immediately after at Memorial Redwood Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan UT 84123.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to help with Sharon's medical and final expenses.
