Sharon Rygh Obituary

Sharon Carmel [Swann] Rygh passed away on October 1st after a long battle with cancer. She was born on January 28th, 1960, in Louisville Kentucky. Her family moved to the Pigeon Hill neighborhood of Aurora in 1967 where she and her family [nine siblings] lived on Gates Ave, with the many other large Catholic families of that time. She graduated from Aurora Central Catholic High School in 1978. The following year she met her future husband, and they were married in 1981. Together they had four children and seven grandchildren whom she loved more than can be expressed here. The fact that she became "Granny" at 48 years old tells you how much she embraced and loved her role as the grandma. Her grandkids felt her true love and spirit at every moment.

She was a stay-at-home Mom, but as soon as all the kids were in school full time she worked as a lunch lady at Oswego High School so that her schedule would be the same as theirs. Once the nest was empty, she bartended at the Montgomery VFW for many years. Whether at the lunchroom or the bar room she always made a point to know who everyone was. She had a photographic memory for names, birthdays and who everyone was related to. Once she got to know you if you didn't have a nick name already there was a good chance, she'd give you one. Most of the time it was because she liked you. It wasn't clear which she enjoyed more, a White Sox win or a Cubs loss.

She is survived by her husband David Rygh, her children Leah Bohr [Doug], Nathan Rygh, Luke Rygh [Barbara Applebaum] and Daniel Rygh [Christina Lyznicki]. Her grandchildren Ben Bohr, Evan Bohr, Eleanor Bohr, June Rygh, Francine Rygh, Archie Rygh and Annie Rygh. Also, her siblings Mary Klein, Nancy Wyman, Colleen Hamling, Jim Swann [Aimee], Gina Suman [Jon], Maureen Moore (Randy), Rich Swann [Kim] and Kevin Swann [Kathy] as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents James and Nancy Swann, her sister Teresa Secor, her brother in-laws Bob Wyman and John L. Hamling and nephews John C. Hamling and Vincent Hamling.

A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 12:00 NOON until time of service 2:00 P.M. at the DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME with CREMATORY 1801 S. Douglas Road Oswego, IL 60543.
