Sharon Kay Schmidt

Sharon Kay Schmidt died peacefully on September 15, 2025, at the age of 72. She is survived by her brother and her sister-in-law, Ron and Susan Schmidt of Albuquerque New Mexico, and numerous extended family around the country. Sharon is preceded in death by her parents Leona Kaufman Schmidt and Menno Schmidt; also a step-mother, Doris Nikkel Schmidt. Sharon was born on February 18, 1953 in Newton, Kansas. She attended Buhler Grade School and Buhler High School and was very active in school activities. Sharon was a passenger in a car that was involved in a serious accident during her junior year in high school. She lived out her remaining years in a group home in El Dorado, Kansas. Sharon had a lifelong love of music, especially the Beatles. She also loved the outdoors and spent as much time as possible enjoying the sunshine. She had a humorous personality and loved to laugh. In her final moments she was heard giggling, while being visited by her wonderful caregivers, who drove from El Dorado to be with her in her final hours at the hospital in Wichita. There will be a family visitation at Buhler Mortuary on Friday, September 26th from 6 to 8pm. Private burial will take place. Memorials can be made to Easter Seals Capper Foundation with a designation to be used for the El Dorado location.
