Sharon’s life began on June 15, 1951, at Salem Hospital in Hillsboro. She was the daughter of Roger and Edna (Schmidt) Hiebert. Sharon attended grade schools in Enterprise and Newton before her family moved back to Hillsboro where she graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1969. After high school, Sharon attended cosmetology school in Salina.
She was united in marriage with Ronald Ray Suderman on April 28, 1972, at the First Mennonite Church in Hillsboro. Together they shared over 49 years of marriage before Ron’s passing in December 2021. Sharon provided for her family in many ways. She worked in food service at restaurants and Tabor College, as a crop insurance agent, and eventually started working in the educational system first as a paraeducator and then as the director of the Marion County Learning Center. It was during her tenure at the learning center that Sharon decided to go back to college to earn her associate’s degree from Butler County Community College. Of all her roles, Sharon treasured being a wife, mother and grandmother the most. As an adult, she recommitted her life to Christ and was baptized on May 20, 2012, by Pastor Gaylord Goertzen. It was a truly special occasion as she got to share her baptism with her daughter Diane. Sharon was not afraid to share her faith with anyone and spent many hours studying the Bible and the reading devotionals from Dr. David Jeremiah and Dr. Charles Stanley. Sharon enjoyed watching game shows, tending to her flowers, and spending quality time with family and friends. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Her favorite pastime was talking about her grandchildren. There was always a story about how smart, beautiful, and talented each one of her grandchildren were. She was always up for a good laugh and her personality was such that strangers quickly became friends. She will be greatly missed.
Her greatest joy was her family which includes her children Dan (Becky) Suderman of Peabody, Diane (Mike) Meisinger of Hillsboro, and Nichole (Randy) Hendrickson of Pretty Prairie; grandchildren Chase, Callie, and Kenzie Meisinger, Madeline and Ella Suderman, and Grace, Emma, Kate, and Josie Hendrickson; her siblings Ron (Pam) Hiebert and Karen (Tim) Marlar and sister-in-law Elva Suderman. Sharon passed away at home on February 8, 2025.
She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Donita Hiebert, and her husband Ron Suderman. Sharon’s family will gather with family and friends on Thursday, February 13, 2025, from 6:00-8:00pm at Yazel Megli Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Her funeral service will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025, at 11:00am at Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church with committal services at 10:00am in the Ebenfeld cemetery. Memorial contributions in Sharon’s name may be directed to St. Jude’s’s Children’s Research Hospital or Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church.
