Sharon Jo Thornton, age 73, of South Lyon, passed away on February 19, 2024.
Sharon was born in Warren, MI on October 17, 1950 to the late Robert and Lena Brindley. She spent a good portion of her childhood in Royal Oak and attended Dondero High School.
Professionally, Sharon worked as a secretary in a variety of organizations, including in the nonprofit sector. But her greatest devotion was to her family. She was blessed with 49 years of marriage to her husband, Douglas, whom she cared for until his passing in 2017. Sharon was also incredibly inviting and accepting of everyone who came into her family, through blood, marriage, or otherwise. To Sharon, all those closest to her were unequivocally, and simply, family.
In her leisure time, Sharon found joy in camping and fishing, with a particular fondness for Haas Lake in New Hudson. Dogs held a cherished spot in her heart, and she dedicated years to breeding Pomeranians. Sharon also took pleasure in the simple comforts of home. Despite any dissent, she had an inexplicable fondness for unquestionably terrible movies that few could endure. Her absence leaves a deep void in our hearts.
Sharon is survived by her sons Douglas K. (Siv) Thornton and Kevin (Michelle Hooker) Thornton; her grandchildren: Brandon Kling, Elizabeth (Parker) Farlow, Nicholas, Maria (Alfonzo), Ethan, Heather, and Gary; her great-grandchildren: Clementine, Oliver, and Otis; her siblings: Judith (Ronald) Kade, David (Tina) Brindley, Nancy Brindley; and her special companion, Louie. She was predeceased by her husband, Douglas F. Thornton and her siblings: Betty, Bobby, and Roy.
Visitation for Sharon will take place on Thursday, February 22, from 3 - 8 p.m. at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W. Eleven Mile Rd. (four blocks east of Woodward), Royal Oak. Funeral service will take place on Friday, February 23, at 12 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Oakview Cemetery in Royal Oak.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the donor's choice of charity are appreciated.
