Sharron Cecilia (Royer) Smith, age 72, of Hartshorne, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 8, 2025, in Tulsa.
A celebration of Sharron's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Center Point Baptist Church in the Center Point Community, with Rev. Bud Vinson officiating. A private inurnment will follow at Indianola Cemetery.
Service and cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory in McAlester.
Sharron was born on April 11, 1953, in McAlester, Oklahoma, to Burl B. and Willie Wynema (Joplin) Royer. She was raised in Haywood and graduated from Haileyville High School in 1969. She went on to earn her bachelor's degree in education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
A dedicated educator, Sharron spent nearly 25 years teaching second grade at Grace Russell Elementary School in Wilburton, from August 1985 until her retirement in May 2009. She was deeply admired by her students and respected by her colleagues for her warmth, patience, and commitment to her work.
Sharron was a faithful member of Center Point Baptist Church. She found immense joy in her family, especially in the time she spent with her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
She was preceded in death by her father, Burl B. Royer; her mother, Willie Wynema Pruitt; her brother, Thomas Leon "Tommy" Royer; and sister, Beryldean (Royer) Wagoner.
Sharron is survived by her daughter, Misty Smith of Gowen; her son, Smokey Smith of Wilburton; her beloved grandchildren, Sierra Goddard, Smokey Slayde Smith, Brooke Ann Welsh, and Richard Derrick Welsh; and her great-grandchildren, Richard Henry Welsh and Olivia Welsh. She is also survived by her beloved twin sister, Karen Powell; her brother, David Royer; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Sharron will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
