Shawn Derek Smith, known affectionately as Shawn to his friends and family, passed away peacefully in his hometown of Evansville, Indiana, the same place where he first brought joy into the world on January 23, 1987. Shawn's life was a testament to the power of kindness, a friendly spirit, and the simple pleasures that make life worth living.
Shawn's early years in Evansville were filled with the love and support of his family, including his mother Angela Smith, his sister Krystal Smith, and his grandparents Judy Deffendol and Delores Smith, alongside her husband Charles. His family was the cornerstone of his life, providing him with a foundation of love and values that he carried with him throughout his journey. Shawn was preceded in death by his father, Timothy K Smith, and his great-grandmother, Dorothy Deffendol, both of whom he held in loving memory.
A man of the outdoors, Shawn found solace and excitement in the embrace of nature. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, pursuits that not only brought him peace but also connected him with friends and the environment in a profound way. Music was another of Shawn's passions, a universal language that spoke to his soul and lifted his spirits. His love for the Bible was a reflection of his deep faith and the comfort he found in its teachings.
Shawn's two loving dogs, Ench and Beth, were more than pets; they were his loyal companions, sharing in his adventures and providing unconditional love. His bond with them was a beautiful illustration of his capacity for affection and care.
His cousin Jamie Weyerbacher will fondly remember the many cherished moments they shared, as will all those who were fortunate enough to know Shawn. His presence was a gift, and his absence will be deeply felt by all.
Shawn's life was one of connection and joy. He was the kind of person who could light up a room with his friendly demeanor and spirited nature. His ability to make others feel at ease was one of his most remarkable traits, and it is this quality that will be missed the most by those who knew him.
As we say goodbye to Shawn Derek Smith, we celebrate the life he lived and the impact he had on those around him. His legacy is one of love, friendship, and the simple joys that make life beautiful. We take comfort in knowing that his spirit will continue to inspire us, just as it did every day he was with us.
Shawn's life will be honored and remembered in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were touched by his warm presence. As the sun sets on his time with us, we are grateful for the memories we hold and the love he shared. Rest in peace, Shawn; your spirit will forever fish in the eternal streams and walk the endless forests of our hearts.
A celebration of life will be held by family at a later time.

My condolences to Shawn's family. I used to work with Shawn several years back at the hotel Casino. He was always a delight to be around. He never hesitated to help out with anything that was needed and was a hard worker. One thing I will always remember about him was his kind demeanor and his humor. There were many nights I would come into work down in the dumps for one reason or another, and I would be smiling and laughing within a few minutes of having a conversation with him. His ability to make others laugh and smile, will always be one of his greatest strengths in my opinion. He had a natural ability to put others at ease with his personality and kindness. I am very sorry to hear of his passing. May he rest in peace. I extend my deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and loved ones.
