Sheila Perkins Beckstead passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025, at the age of 74. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Born on February 12, 1951, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Sheila was the second of three daughters. She grew up in Holladay, where she developed a connection to nature and the wilderness—a love that would remain a defining part of her life. Summers spent in Bear Lake nurtured her spirit and instilled in her a lifelong respect for animals and the natural world.
Sheila attended Olympus High School. She earned both her Commercial Driver’s License and General Engineering License to work alongside and support her husband, Garth Beckstead, in their excavation business.
One of her proudest accomplishments was receiving her GED accompanied by her grandchildren, Stone Garth Criddle and Chelsea Ray Criddle—a moment that symbolized her enduring commitment to family, growth, and shared achievement.
She is survived by her husband, Garth R. Beckstead; her sister, Rolayne Perkins Bowen; her daughter, Jennette Shan Garcia; and her cherished grandchildren, Stone Garth Criddle and Chelsea Ray Criddle.
She will be laid to rest on September 29, 2025, at Midvale Cemetery, in a place close to home and heart.
Sheila’s life was one of quiet bravery, fierce love, and unwavering purpose. Her legacy lives on in the mountains she adored, the family she guided, and the lives she touched with her gentle strength.
There will be a viewing on Monday, September 29 from 10:30-11:45 am at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State St., Midvale. The graveside service will be at 12:00 noon at the Midvale City Cemetery, 450 West 7500 South.
