Sheila Kathryn (Eaton) Lewis R.N. (nee Carey), 86 years, of Akron, died on July 30, 2023.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Sheila was raised in New Jersey and Cincinnati, Ohio and graduated from Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati in 1956. She was a resident of Akron since 1976. Sheila was Head Nurse of Orthopedics at Akron City Hospital and was the nurse in charge of beginning the Oncology Unit at Akron Summa Hospital. She also worked in the Oncology Unit at Akron General Medical Center. She was the first "Miss Hope" of Summit County in 1976 and competed in Columbus for the title of "Miss Hope of Ohio" (Later the contest was renamed "Nurse of Hope"). The purpose of those involved was to work with the American Cancer Society to educate the public about cancer detection and treatment.
Preceded in death by parents, Charles P. and Edna G. Carey (nee Graham), Stepmother Genevieve (Jean) Carey; sisters, Kathleen C. Carletti and Nora C. Dell; brothers, Michael G. Carey and Dennis P. Carey and beloved aunt and uncle Vi and Richard Carey.
She is survived by husband George H. (Mike) Lewis; children, Stephen C. Eaton, Laura J. Eaton, James P. Eaton and Kathryn M. Eaton; stepchildren Dean B. (Martine) Lewis, David W. (Kelly) Lewis and Merry Lewis; brother, Terence C. (Peg) Carey, sister, Betsy Carey (Larry) Blameuser, sister-in-law Diane Carey and many nieces and nephews.
Sheila loved family, music of all kinds, acting and singing in the Little Theatre Productions, tennis, golf, duplicate bridge and traveling.
There will be no calling hours or services.
