Sheila Agnes Manning, age 78, passed away on October 26, 2023 in Tampa, FL after a prolonged illness with Parkinson's disease. Sheila was born in Arcardia, Wisconsin on January 3, 1945 to Thomas H. and Elaine M. (Hunter) Manning. The family moved to Rochester in 1955 and she attended St. John's Elementary School and then graduated from Lourdes High School in 1963. She went on to attend Alverno College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, majoring in Mathematics and graduating in 1968. She then obtained her Illinois teacher certificate in 1970 and taught at Glenmuir High School in Glenmuir, Illinois. In 1971 Sheila attended the University of South Carolina graduating with a Masters in Mathematics. She always taught Math and Physics. She soon discovered she could combine her love for teaching and her love for overseas, including Jamaica, where she was instrumental in opening an orphanage. Then; while she was teaching in Kuwait, she had to be airlifted out before the war started. While in Taipei, Taiwan, she adopted two dogs and two cats, which she eventually brought back with her to the States. No matter where she lived, she always found a way to support local children and animals. The distance with her teaching overseas never kept her from her family as she came home every summer to reunite with her family and challenged them to great games of scrabble. Although Sheila never married, she was like a mother to many of her students and was the best auntie to her nieces and nephews.
Sheila was preceded in death by her parents and also her brother, Dennis R. Manning in 2012, following a motorcycle accident.
She is survived by her sister Patricia S. (Carl) Redderson of Tampa, Fl and her brother John L. Manning of Coos Bay, Oregon. She is further survived by her nieces and nephews.
May she always rest in peace. We love her and miss her every day!
