God called home one of his precious angels on April 19, 2024, at 12.59 p.m. Sheila Gaye Robinson was born November 8, 1948, in Benton Harbor, MI to Lemar and Anna Mae (Murkey) Robinson. Sheila was baptized at an early age under the leadership of Rev. W.E. Ellis of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, Benton Harbor, MI. She later rededicated her life to Christ under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Donald B. Adkins at Second Baptist Church, Benton Harbor, MI.
Sheila graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1967, She also attended Lake Michigan College and was an active member of Delta Psi Phi, Sorority. She was employed as a teacher's assistant with the Benton Harbor Area Schools for many years before retiring as a legal secretary in the law office of Rev. Kenneth M. Gavin Esq,
In 1972, Sheila was united in marriage with Fred Louis Govain and 3 sons were born to this union. In August of 2000, she married Johnnie L McAfee and gained more children. She was alongside John as he traveled and preached. She was a Christian woman and served as a member on the Usher Board at Second Baptist Church and was a past president of the Pastor's Aide Committee. In early years, she was an avid bowler and enjoyed traveling. Sheila was ranked with her mother and aunts as another great cook in the family, known for her dressing, potato salad, and strawberry delight.
She will always be remembered by her family and friends as a kind, gentle, and happy natured person. She had an infectious laughter and always had an uplifting word for anyone she came in contact with.
Sheila is survived by her mother, Anna Mae Robinson, Benton Harbor, MI, and loving sons, Todd Jason Govain, Chicago, IL; Garrett Fredreguis (Cheri) Govain, Hutchinson, KS, and Tolby Jermaine Govain of Eau Claire, MI. She is also survived by her bonus children, Barbara McDavid, North Las Vegas, NV; Colleen McAfee (John) Hale, Fullerton, CA; Ruthy (Billy) Cyrus, Fontana, CA; Shirley McAfee (Gill Gamez), Serivelle, TN; Wade McAfee, Las Vegas,NV; Raymond (Chong) McAfee, Washington State; Tracey (Frances) McAfee, Minneapolis, MN; Gregory McAfee and Mark (Keena) McAfee, Benton Harbor, MI and Lathesia (Victor) Hobson, Atlanta, GA. Sheila is also survived by her siblings; Spring Robinson-Turner, Athens, GA; Lance (Phyllis) Robinson, Kalamazoo, MI; Mark Robinson, Pontiac, MI; Jay Robinson, Benton Harbor, MI; Starla Robinson, Benton Harbor,, MI and Seanetta (Gregory) Robinson-Whitehead of Benton Harbor, MI; (14) grandchildren and (5) great-grandchildren, an uncle, Charles (Sarah) Murkey, Rockville, MD; aunts Eleanor Murkey, Audrey Ransom, Thelma Ransom all of Waukegan, IL; Joan Murkey, Chicago, IL and Juanita Robinson of Woodland Hills, CA. She is also survived by her in-laws, Mildred Adams, Mattie Greene, Mavis Rodgers, Sue McAfee, Faye Hill, Bobbie Wright, Willard (Jennie) McAfee, Hulon (Charlie) McAfee, and special brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Fletcher and Thomasina McAfee, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Sheila also leaves memories to cherish with lifelong girlfriends Janet LaVerne Wilhite, Barbara Jenkins-Watson, Brenda Maltimore Banks, and Madge Caldwell.
Sheila was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Johnnie L. McAfee, and father, Lemar Robinson,
