Shelby Jean Maloof/Chapdelaine ascended to Heaven August 4th , 2024. Shelby was bless fully surrounded by family. Shelby is the daughter of George H. and Geneva G. Layton. Shelby was born May 1st, 1937 in Lancaster, Kentucky.
Several years later she and her family moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where Shelby graduated from Washington High School. During those days, Shelby worked downtown where she met Phillip and married soon after. During their successful marriage of 25+ years, Shelby and Phil had 3 children, Mark, Mike and Maribeth. It was important to Shelby that the children would have a valuable and God minded education, and as such all 3 children attended St. Pius X and in turn Bishop Chatard High School. After a lengthy marriage the Good Lord called Phil to heaven and then blessed Shelby, thru St. Pius X Church, by introducing her to Leo Chapdelaine. Shelby and Leo enjoyed their lives for many years with several residences in Ponce Inlet, Florida, Duxbury, Massachusetts, and at Lake Tippecanoe, Indiana. After 30+ years the Good Lord also called upon Leo to come to heaven. Shelby blessed her family the last few years by returning to Indianapolis. Shelby had many interests which included obtaining her Masters in Bridge, Cooking, and making beautiful rugs from hand dyed wool, known as hooking. These rugs will be a lasting keepsake for years to come by the family. Shelby loved and was very proud of her family which now included Maloofs, Presnals, Chapdelaines, Gadus’ and Smith’s. Shelby was especially proud of her new Great Grandchildren, James and Ella Gadus. Shelby will be joining in heaven, her husband Phil Maloof, husband Leo Chapdelaine, son Michael Maloof, daughter, Maribeth Presnal, step daughter Terri Chapdelaine and Jeanine Chapdelaine. Shelby is survived by son Mark, Daughter in Law, Aliceann, Son in Law, Michael Presnal, and Grandchildren, Matthew Maloof (Kath Maloof), Kathleen Gadus (Matt Gadus), Malorie Smith (Boyd Smith), Madison Maloof, Andrew Presnal, Sam Presnal, Lucy Presnal (Sky), and Michael Presnal (Natalya). Also much love goes to Bud and Denise Delano, Mary and Jim LaBonty, and Chris and Missy Chapdelaine who Shelby also loved and considered as family. Great Grandchildren include James and Ella Gadus.
