In Loving Memory of Sheldon Eugene Tauben June 25, 1954 – May 4, 2025
With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Sheldon Tauben, beloved father, grandfather, brother, partner, and friend, who left us peacefully on May 4, 2025 after a long battle with head and neck cancer. Sheldon's life served as a beacon to those who knew him, and he will be remembered for his boundless sense of adventure, unshakable resilience, selfless spirit, and irrepressible happiness.
Sheldon was born in
Dallas, Texas and was quickly adopted by loving parents, Selma and John Tauben. He had a happy childhood alongside his siblings, Sandy, Jan, and Morris. Despite losing his hearing in infancy, Sheldon never allowed the absence of sound to deter him or dull his spirit. He made fast friends with everyone and always managed to convey his vast reserves of warmth, know-how, and sense of humor- deeply touching the lives of everyone lucky enough to know him. Throughout his teenage years, he developed an affinity for water sports, an affection for film, and was also known to spend many evenings working on classic cars in the garage with his best friends. Later in life, Sheldon was also blessed to unite with his birth mother, Pamela Erringer, maternal siblings Ann and Carol, and paternal sibling Helen Hall.
Sheldon's pride and joy was being a father to his three children, Joshua, Laurel, and Trenton. He truly adored them, delighting in their companionship and antics (that he typically instigated). His trademark laughter-booming, and infectious- was the heartbeat of his family. His joy only grew with the arrival of his two grandchildren, Kendall and Landon.
Sheldon was a man of many talents and trades. Over the course of his life, he embraced an array of roles-from his alleged first job milking on a dairy farm, to aiding his family in the fur industry, to assisting as a divemaster, crafting as a jewelry smith, working hard in construction, helping out as a handyman, and more. Eventually he found his niche in the role of department manager at Home Depot, where he made several friends in the form of coworkers and customers who came to rely on his advice and experience. He wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty or dive into something new, often quite literally, and was known for his strong work ethic.
Above all, Sheldon was an adventurer at heart. He found freedom on snow-covered slopes and wonder beneath ocean waves, indulging his love for skiing and scuba diving whenever he could. Whether trekking through mountains or exploring foreign cities, Sheldon found beauty in the little things and inspired others to live life with the same fearless passion.
Sheldon's legacy of laughter, adventure, selflessness and love will live on in the stories we tell, the paths we choose, and the hearts he touched. He will be deeply missed-and never forgotten.
