Sheldon Taylor Obituary
Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2025.
Sheldon Donald Taylor, a beloved husband and father, passed away on March 23, 2025 in Raleigh, NC at the age of 64 after a battle with cancer. Sheldon is survived by his wife, Jennifer Keyes Taylor, married 39 years; his sons, Michael (Carey) and Christopher Taylor; his brothers, Clay (Betty) and Tracy Taylor; and sister, Tracey (Daryl) Johnson.
Sheldon was born on September 28, 1960, to the late Donald Edward Taylor and Kathleen McClure Taylor in Baytown, Texas. He was a kind and generous man of God, who left a lasting impact on all who knew him. Sheldon put his family above all else – from sharing his wisdom and passion for life with his two children, to serving as a protector and healer to his wife. Although Sheldon mostly kept himself out of the public eye, we wanted to share a bit about him to honor his legacy.
Sheldon enjoyed the classics: classic cars and classic 70s music. He played guitar in his spare time and passed his love for music down to his kids. He loved watching movies, and especially loved the taste of movie popcorn! Sheldon's passion was working on old cars – doing everything from engine work, electronics, body work, and even painting. Sheldon would go out of his way to help his friends work on their project vehicles – one time even painting an entire airplane! Sheldon always put others before himself – but several years ago he finally found the time to start a passion project for himself: restoring a 1950 Ford Custom (the same car his father had when Sheldon was younger). He did not get to complete that restoration before God called him home - but his son, Christopher, has taken on the project in honor of him.
Sheldon made an unmistakable impact on his children. Michael said his Dad was his best friend, and he is so grateful that they got to spend so much time together. Whenever they got together, they found it easy to talk and laugh for hours about anything and everything. Christopher said that his Dad was his biggest role model; passing along a vibrant sense of humor and a passion for fixing things. The older Michael and Christopher get, the easier it is to see how big of an impact Sheldon had on their lives; the best things about them are the things they learned from Sheldon.
Sheldon, we will miss you immensely. You were our rock. You were our sanity in this world and our comfort when we needed clarity. You were always someone we could count on. You always gave it 110% and never stopped fighting for what is right. Because of you, we have a tightly knit and endlessly loving family, where we are not afraid to lean on and support one other. The example you set with your wisdom and compassion has continued to guide us, even after you left this earth. We are all better
people because of you, and you will forever be in our hearts.
