Sheng Lin Ting was born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, on December 25, 1961, to her father, Tao Ran Ting, a military medical chief in ophthalmology, and her mother, Can Yin Hsieh, a housewife. She was the third of four siblings, including Linda Ting, Joe Ting, and JK Ting.
Her childhood was filled with laughter, dancing, and dogs, including the beloved family Yorkie named Guai Guai. Unfortunately, an accident occurred when she was around 4 years old, where her legs were run over by a military jeep. Sheng Lin still carries the scars and has uneven legs after a strong battle of rehabilitation.
Starting school, Sheng Lin was beloved by many for her compassion and beauty. She earned the nickname "campus belle" from her classmates and modeled for friends' photos during secondary education. After completing two years of an associate program, she worked as a computer programmer.
Sheng Lin Ting met her future husband, Young-Chung Wang, through friends. After a whirlwind year of romance, they married in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1991. One year later, they moved to New Jersey for graduate studies at Stevens University. Young-Chung pursued his Ph.D. in materials science, while Sheng Lin earned her master's in information management. During that time, they decided to start a family, and Sheng Lin found herself completing her thesis while pregnant with her daughter, Deborah Wang.
After graduating, the family moved to El Cerrito, California, for Young-Chung's post-doctorate program. Sheng Lin built strong bonds with friends during her time in California.
After a year, they moved up the coast to Hillsboro, Oregon. In Oregon, she explored hobbies like painting and even held an art exhibition with friends and fellow painters under the guidance of their art teacher, Wang Gongyi.
Sheng Lin often volunteered, including serving as the president of the Portland Chinese School. Her favorite project was caring for her beautiful Australian Shepherd named Shiao-Hwa.
After 12 years in Oregon, Sheng Lin and her husband moved to Naperville, Illinois. Her time in Illinois has been filled with music (learning to play the piano) and a bountiful circle of friends with whom she has shared good meals and even better memories.
