Sherlye Lynette Hampton, 63 of Lynchburg VA, was born February 25, 1961, to the late Clifton and Mary Elizabeth Giles. On November 10, 2024, while surrounded by her loved ones at Lynchburg General Hospital, Sherlye departed this earthly life and transitioned into eternal rest.
Sherlye was one of eleven siblings growing up in Campbell County among a close-knit family. On September 8, 2001, Sherlye married Dwayne Hampton, her loving and devoted husband of 23 years. Sherlye had two daughters Melvyna Thomas and Monique Giles.
To know Sherlye was to love her. She had a heart of gold, was the life of the party and had a smile that could light up any room. Sherlye had an infectious energy that penetrated the hearts of anyone in her presence and her love you certainly felt. She loved and loved well with her actions, her humor, and certainly her food that feed your soul. Her character and personality were unmatched and always radiated such joy and positivity that you always felt encouraged when with her. Sherlye was a radiant beam of light, consistently warming the lives of those around her, filling you with such a spark. Sherlye was always willing to lend a helping hand to whoever was in need and supported so very many. Sherlye enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and brought so much laughter to every function.
Sherlye was employed for over 10 years at Morrisons Café, then was the lead cook at both Hungry House and Moose Lodge since 1997. Many came to both restaurants solely for the dishes she prepared. Sherlye joined New Hope Baptist Church of Lynchburg, VA in 1972 and was a loyal member. She was baptized August 1972 and joined the Usher Board May 8, 1977. Sherlye volunteered on the Kitchen committee with the church.
Sherlye is preceded in death by sibling Nelson Giles, Gary Giles Sr, James (Alex) Giles, Lessie Mccoy, Mary (Ethel) Lambert, Sarah Freeman and Lillie Daye.
In addition to her husband Dwayne, Sherlye is survived by her two daughters, Melvyna Thomas (Harold) and Monique Giles. Her one and only granddaughter Madilyn Thomas. She also leaves to cherish her memory, three sisters: Helen Brown of Lynchburg, VA, Marie Nowlin (Lacy), of Lynchburg, VA, and Arlene Goode (Sevelle), of Lynchburg, VA. A brother-in-law Ernest Daye, Sr. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends remain to cherish her legacy.
A visitation will be held at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, on Friday, November 15, 2024 from 5:30 P.M. - 7:30 P.M. A Service will be held at Heritage Baptist Church on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 1 P.M
