Sherman (Chip) Owen Halstead Jr quietly left this world December 31,2025, at the age of 65. Born with a brilliant mind, he graduated from Hopewell High School in 1978 where he achieved a perfect score on his college entrance test. Chip was awarded a full scholarship from UVA followed by attendance at Stanford University School of Law where he graduated with the highest academic achievement honors at both schools. Chip practiced law in Texas, California and lastly in Virginia.
Chip was predeceased by his grandparents Dan and Vera Lilly and parents Sherman and Delia (Dee) Halstead. He is survived by his Aunt Sue (Ha Su) Lilly McCool, cousins Vera (Mike) and son Tony Barber, Allen James, Linda Lilly Michel, Lana Lilly O’Meara, Kelli Bates and step-cousin Catherine (Sid) Wyrick.
Chip was a perfectionist, a lover of cats, a great cook and a witty conversationist. He will be forever in his family’s hearts. Rest in peace and love.
