Loretta Elizabeth Hartle, 93, of Colonial Heights, VA, passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2026. Born in Baltimore, MD on July 25, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Swinton Vincent Wise and Virginia Ruth Taylor Wise. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Harold O. Hartle; her stepmother, Eleanor Wise; and her sister, Ruth D. Wise-Poe.
She is survived by her children, Susan L. Hartle (Raymond) of Prince George, VA, Karl H. Hartle (Cindy) of Dinwiddie, VA, Jeffrey S. Hartle (Heidi) of Titusville, FL, and Leonard A. Hartle (Margaret) of Dinwiddie, VA; grandchildren, Loretta C. Whealton (Mark) of Englewood, FL, Kayla Hartle of Titusville, FL, Karl H. Hartle, Jr. (Jenny) of Bowling Green, VA, Karla Beth McCoy of Dinwiddie, VA, and Kelsey B. Arcenia (Justin) of Colonial Heights, VA; great-grandchildren, Cammie M. McCoy, Gavin L. Arcenia, Emery M. Arcenia, Jovie B. Arcenia, Ella G. Hartle, and Kaelynn H.. Hartle; and many other extended family members.
Loretta was a loving housewife and homemaker, devoted to her family as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She found joy in creativity and sharing her talents with others, especially teaching sewing through the local 4-H program. Loretta loved sewing and painting, and she also enjoyed rockhounding. Her husband often took her to gem and mineral mines, where she enjoyed finding new treasures.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Dunlop House for the loving care and kindness shown to Loretta over the years. Their compassion meant more than words can express.
Interment will be private. Arrangements are by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Epilepsy Foundation of Virginia, https://www.epilepsyva.com/make-a-gift
