It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Sherri Kehs (Sharon Joy (Smith) Kehs), on April 15, 2024, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Sherri was born on September 15, 1951, to Alfred and Marion Smith in Binghamton, New York. She lived in Binghamton until she moved to New Mexico with her children in 1981. She loved New Mexico and made it her forever home.
Sherri Kehs attended Binghamton North High but stopped to help her family and care for her mother. She later persevered in studying, taking, and passing her GED (General Education Diploma). She was very proud of accomplishing this in her adult life.
Sherri had many employment talents, including working as a journeyman meat wrapper and bartender, but found joy in caring for others by providing home healthcare services. Before her health declined, Sherri enjoyed traveling, singing, and keeping holiday traditions alive with her family.
Sherri loved spending time with her dog, Holly, and reading her bible. Holly was an amazing companion to our mother, nudging her to do things and making her smile.
Sherri is survived by her two daughters, Kimberly Jackson (Dean) of Las Cruces, NM, and Connie Maag (Jim Hamel) Deming, NM, and her sister Joan Smith. She had to leave her 8 grandchildren- Chelsey Smith, Jeffrey Maag Jr (Kristina), Dale Maag, Amber Jackson, Brittney Jackson, Autumn Jackson, Dean Jackson Jr (Shaylynn), Brian Jackson and 3 great-grandchildren, Weston Maag, Charlotte Maag, and Paislee May Jackson (coming soon).
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kelly Smith; her parents, Alfred and Marion Smith; two brothers, Larry Smith and Tom Smith; and her sister, Patricia Jones.
A celebration of life will be held on April 27th at 10:00 am at the VFW 6917 at 5845 Bataan Memorial West Las Cruces, NM, 88012, for any who would like to attend and/or share a memory of our mother, Sherri Kehs. Following the service, Sherri's family will take her ashes to their final resting spot.
