Sherry Ann (Silva) Borge, 72, of Gloucester, passed away Thursday, August 22, at Lahey Hospital in Burlington. Born in Gloucester, she was the daughter of the late Mary (Leaf) and John Silva. She was the loving wife of Dana Borge with whom she shared 41 years of marriage.
Sherry dropped out of GHS, to go to work to help support her family, but later earned her GED going to Sawyer Free Library, taking courses after work. She went to work for Gortons in 1974, where she once told me it was going to be temporary until she found her "calling". She retired from there in 2017.
She loved music, writing poems and dancing, but most of all, she loved helping people. That is where all the walking came in. She walked 31 straight years for Gloucester Pride Stride. She walked raising money for The Open Door food pantry.
She walked with her husband Dana, several times, when he worked for Pride Hyundai in Lynn. They also took part in the Jimmy Fund Boston Marathon 5k walk along the marathon route. Then, of course there were the retirement poems she wrote for many of the retiring Gortonians. She never asked for much, but gave so much of herself willingly. Sherry believed everybody should treat one another with dignity and respect.
Sherry is survived by her husband, Dana Borge; brothers, Robert Silva and Joseph Silva and his wife Judith, and stepbrother, William Ingersoll and his wife Amy. She was predeceased by her two sisters, Jackie Brenner and Julie Callahan.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Contributions may be made in Sherry's memory to The Open Door at www.foodpantry.org. Arrangements by Campbell Funeral Home, 61 Middle St, Gloucester. Information and condolences at www.campbellfuneral.com.

Sherry one of the kindest people Ive known. And I knew her for over 30 years, especially as her pastor in 24 of those years. She had extraordinary courage & didn't hesitate to be involved in challenging issues & organizations that promote equal justice for all people.
I've a great memory of Sherry on stage at the Universalist Church, belting out "Me and Bobby MaGee" with fine musical talent & flair. I'm grateful to have known her and her husband Dana. I hold them both in my heart.
