William S. Dubin, 77, bridged the river of life on July 30, 2025. As he crossed over, his wife Richetta held him, his fly-fishing case was in hand and dinner and a martini waited for him in the gentle waters on the other side.
Bill was born in Mercy Hospital, Long Island, NY on August 21, 1947. He grew up in Weston, CT. He completed his BA at George Washington University and his MS, Criminal Justice Studies at Springfield College. He spent his early career in youth counselling and instruction. In early 1980 he began his career in the seafood industry. He owned his own fresh fish purchasing and distribution business before transitioning to a buyer for large seafood companies in the Boston and Gloucester regions.
Bill was the light of our family's life. He was the unflappable brilliance at the center of our family circus. He was a friend to many, a caring, genuine man, naturally infused with hijinks and humor to keep life real… and fun. When life got tough Bill was quick to offer help. He never backed away from a family member in need and always offered his arm to steady us against the waves.
The passion of Bill's active life was fishing. He was a life-long fly fisherman who learned the art as a young boy. He fished the waters of the world and never tired of the adventure and the tranquility it brought to him. Bill's recreational passion was baseball, Yankees all the way. When he was a little boy Casey Stengel once rubbed his head for "good luck."
Bill was a private man never wanting to diminish a moment with too much fuss or attention. Often while fishing in the early daylight hours off the coast of Gloucester, whales surrounded his little fishing boat. The giant creatures would blow softly and gently rock his boat in the fog of morning. Bill was awed and honored by their presence. When it was suggested that he take a picture to capture the experience, he gave his soft smile and explained, "I have a picture of it in my mind. I'll always have that."
The passion of his heart was his wife, Richetta. His children, Brigitta and Blake…courageous and steadfast…were his pride and joy. Family was at his core, and he takes a piece of our hearts with him. Bill was a magnet of friendship, and he left many close and dear friends behind. We will all remember so many times with Bill in the pictures in our mind. We are comforted knowing that he is forever fishing the rivers of his dreams, and as he would say, "It's a beautiful thing."
Bill leaves behind his wife Richetta (Migliozzi) Dubin; daughter Brigitta Allen and her husband Marshall; son Blake Dubin and his wife Christina; four grandchildren Finn and Ingrid Allen, Eli and Hattie Dubin; two sisters, Terrie Albright and her husband Charles, and Alison Follos and her husband Gary; stepbrother, Michael Bowman; and countless long time friends.
His sister, Jamison Bowman, predeceased him in 2024.
