Sherry R. Hughes, a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 29, 2023, at Goshen Hospital at the age of 77. She was born on June 14, 1946, in Warsaw, Indiana to Gerald and Marjorie LaRue (Tenney).
Sherry graduated from North Webster High School in 1964 and embarked on a fulfilling career as a housekeeper at Goshen Hospital. For many years, she served the hospital and its patients until her well-deserved retirement.
Though Sherry's professional accomplishments were noteworthy, it was her family that brought her the most pride and joy. In September of 1968, she married Howard Richard Hughes. The two found immense happiness when they welcomed their only son, Tom, into their lives. Richard and Sherry shared almost twenty-three wonderful years together until his passing in June of 1991.
In addition to her nurturing nature within her family, Sherry extended her love and caregiving to others around her. She was known as a reliable caregiver, always ready to lend a hand or provide comfort to those in need. Along with being a caregiver, Sherry had many hobbies that brought her excitement. She loved to bake for her family and friends. Tom’s favorite recipe was her chocolate chip cookies. She also enjoyed sewing, reading, and owls.
Sherry leaves behind cherished memories with loved ones who will forever hold her dear in their hearts. She is survived by her beloved son, Tom, and daughter in law, Carrie; grandchildren, Liam and Hannah Hughes; sister, Gaynol VonBlon; brother-in-law, Kerry Cooper; nieces, Lori Howe, Christine Flaugh, and Cyndee Robbins; and nephew, Sheldon Cooper. She was preceded in passing by her parents, husband, and sister, Candace Cooper.
Titus Funeral Home of Syracuse is entrusted with the care of Sherry and her family. A private graveside service will be held at Syracuse Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her husband. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial gifts in Sherry’s honor are appreciated to The Magical Meadows, 3386 E 525 N, Warsaw, IN 46582 or Clearview United Brethren Church, 67622 US-33, Goshen, IN 46526.
