Sherry Lay Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel P.A. - Westminster on May 6, 2025.
Sherry Anne Lay, age 81, of Westminster, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at The Terraces at Westminster following an extended illness.
Born on October 20, 1943, in San Marcos, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Gus Holmgren and Lois (Barrett) Hinks.
She is survived by her devoted children, Michael Scott Lay and his wife Cindy, of Austin, Texas, and Suzanne Elizabeth Zombro and her husband Tim of Eldersburg; and by her beloved grandchildren, Anthony and Connor, who brought her immense joy.
Sherry was employed for many years by the Social Security Administration, serving in a variety of roles with dedication and pride. Sherry loved watching cooking shows and collecting recipes, although she rarely tried them out in her own kitchen. She simply enjoyed the creativity and inspiration they offered. In her leisure time, she found great happiness in gardening, transforming her yard into a vibrant display of flowers and plants that brought beauty to every spring and summer.
Family was at the center of Sherry's life. She cherished time spent with her large extended family and held dear the memories of countless cookouts, holidays, and vacations, including cross-country road trips through New England and the western United States.
Above all, she loved being a grandmother. Sherry found endless delight in her grandchildren's accomplishments and never missed an opportunity to celebrate them, often recalling the many Christmases and birthdays made special by her thoughtful gifts and presence.
Services will be private for immediate family.
