Sherry Maday, 85, of Oak Park, Illinois, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025, at Rush Oak Park Hospital after a long battle with a weakening heart.
Born in Chicago to Edgar and Vera Engh, Sherry faced early hardship when her mother passed away at a very young age. She was lovingly taken in by her godmother, Arlyn Engh, whose guidance and care helped shape the compassionate and resilient woman she became.
A gorgeous young woman working retail at one of the locally adored Sears stores downtown-where she was well known and well loved-Sherry met a dashing young Allstate Insurance agent, William. The two fell in love, married, and later welcomed their son, Matthew, whom Sherry cherished above all else. While their marriage did not last, the love for their son shone brightly on.
Sherry was a devoted mother and a loyal friend who could always be counted on. With a deep appreciation for the arts and a heartfelt love for animals, she celebrated the beauty of the world in all its forms. Her curiosity for distant places took her abroad throughout her youth, including travels across Europe and a period of living in California before returning to Illinois to reconnect with family.
Sherry wanted her entire family, near and far-no matter the distance or time apart-to know that she truly and deeply loved them all.
Honoring her wishes, no formal service will be held. Sherry will be lived through and loved endlessly by her son, Matthew, and by all who carry her memory in their hearts.
