In 1971 she and her children moved to Corpus Christi at the age of 28 where she spent her remaining years. She married James W. Miller on May 27, 1983 until his death on March 16, 2014.
Sherry Leigh Miller is preceded in death by her parents Mildred Pattie Cartwright and Leon Pattie, her spouse, JW Miller, daughter Robin Shouse, and son Tommy Shouse. She is survived by her son, Johnny Shouse, and his wife Sherri Shouse of Ingleside, Texas and Robert Shouse, and his wife, Lisa Shouse of El Cajon, California. She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren Sara Shouse, Crystal Shouse, Jeremy Shouse, Megan Palacios, Timothy Hendon and Brandon Hendon. Sherry's legacy continues with 11 great-grandchildren.
Sherry Leigh Miller loved life like no other. She wasn't afraid of death but was not done living. She loved everything about life and staying busy. She never wanted to retire and at 80 years of age worked at JK Kalb as a bookkeeper. She was hoping to die while working at her desk, fishing or mowing her yard. She was meticulous with her yard and landscaping which she did on her own up to the age of 79 when her illness would not allow her to continue.
She enjoyed fishing well into her late 70's, both by kayak or surf fishing. She often was by herself or with her son Johnny or dear friend Pat. She would load her kayak in her truck or she would pack her fishing rods with her handgun close by because she was a fearless little old lady who loved to fish the Texas coast. She enjoyed the company of her dear friends Pat and Jean, shopping at thrift stores and estate sells, selling items on eBay, fishing, or anything else she could talk them into. She had four beautiful children and like her she made them tough as nails. She was not a compassionate person but was passionate with everything she did, especially her love of dogs, which were all rescues or strays.
She believed if you didn't work for it you didn't deserve it. Her height was 5ft but she stood tall for everything she believed in and never back down. She had the mouth of sailor and didn't care if she hurt your feelings. She proudly wore and is still wearing her 100% Bitch necklace. She was the strongest and most fearless person ever. She had little patience for nonsense and often say, "Aw, that's just horse shit." She put up a great fight until the end and will be dearly missed by those who loved her most.
