Sherry Sue (Kinder) White passed away on June 10, 2023. She was born in Crawford County, Illinois on April 5, 1930 to Henry Troy Kinder and Mary Jane (Stevens) Kinder. In 1936 her family moved to Carthage, Indiana. Sue graduated from Carthage High School in 1948. After graduation Sue moved to Indianapolis, Indiana to take a job with Bell Telephone Company. Sue met her future husband Harry D. White of Knightstown, Indiana when he showed up at her apartment to pick up her roommate for a date. The roommate had stood him up so Sue took a chance and went out with him. Five months later they were married on September 29, 1950. They were married almost 65 years.
Sue moved to Knightstown after her wedding and worked at the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Home for the next two years until the birth of her first child in late 1952. In 1957 after the birth of her third child she began beauty school in the evenings completing her courses in the summer of 1958. Sue then opened "Sherry Sue's Beauty Shop" where she worked for the next 37 years. Sue was a member of the Knightstown Friends Meeting where she volunteered much of her time. Throughout her adult life she worked with the Girl Scouts of America at the local level leading her daughter Jane's troop then continuing long after her girls had grown. Sue became a lifetime member of Girl Scouts of America. She also volunteered during her retirement years with Park-a-Tot, Pregnancy Care of Henry County and the local food pantry.
Surviving are her children Julie Bright (Greg) of Reading, Michigan, Joseph White (Marsha) of Zionsville, Indiana, Jana White of Greenfield, Indiana, son-in-law Roger Campbell of Knightstown, Indiana; grandchildren Chris Campbell, Carrie Campbell, Kristen Bright, Colin Bright, Jesse Bright (Laurie), Derek White (Whitney), Stephanie Crane and Stewart Duhamell; great-grandchildren Isaac Bright, Matilda Bright and Sonora Bright. Sue was preceded in death by her parents Mary Jane and Henry Kinder, her husband Harry D. White, her daughter Mary Jane Campbell, her sisters Georgie Marie Kinder, Betty Lou McClurg and June Rose Alexander.
Our family would like to thank the staff of Legacy at Springhurst and Heart to Heart Hospice for the gentle loving care they gave our mother.
Sue's celebration of life will be held at the Knightstown Friends Church, 214 E. Brown Street, Knightstown, Indiana on June 16, 2023, visitation will be from 11:00 am to Noon. Celebration of Life will begin at Noon. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Glen Cove Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Knightstown Friends Church, 214 E Brown Street, Knightstown, IN 46148. Condolences and memories of Sue may be shared at www.hinsey-brown.com.
