Shirlene Wright, 77, of Sanger, Texas went to be with the Lord, on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 surrounded by her family. She was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis in May 2024 and contracted West Nile Meningitis.
She was born February 6, 1947 in Denton, TX to Dennis E. Bowles and Grace Littrell Bowles of Era, TX. Shirlene was preceded in death by her first husband, Johnny Calvert who passed away in 1972, and her second husband J.L. Wright who passed away in 2018, her parents Dennis and Grace Bowles, and brother Mark Bowles. She married J.L. Wright on January 8, 1974 in Gainesville, Texas.
She is survived by daughters, Becky Claiser and her husband, Keith Claiser of Sanger; Rachel Brandon and her husband Dr. Stanley Brandon, DVM of Ponder; grandchildren, Grace, Joshua, Meagan and Calvin Claiser and Heather McElhinney, JT and Ashley Brandon. Siblings. Steve Bowles of Era, Sue Seibold of Little Elm, D.L. Bowles of Sanger, Sally Davidson of Lorenzo, Mary Bowles of Denton, and Harold Bowles of Era.
She worked for the Phone Company in Denton, then went to school and earned her Cosmetology license. She was the owner of Duck Creek Salon; she met so many sweet clients during those years. Shirlene was a talented baker. She made numerous birthday and wedding cakes.
She enjoyed nature and being outdoors. She loved flowers and grew the most beautiful ones in her backyard. She also planted milkweed and dill for the butterflies and was a registered butterfly conservationist. Shirlene loved taking pictures of her flowers and sharing them with all of her friends and family. You never saw her without a hat on; she owned over 100!
She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Sanger, where she taught children's Sunday School classes, sang in the adult choir, sewed costumes and participated in several Christmas musical productions. She was a member of the Peace Makers Quilting Club and The Wednesday Study Club.
She was a loving and devoted mother and MeMe to her grandchildren. She loved spending time with them. She instilled in them her love for the Lord and taught them how to cook and plant flowers and vegetables. She loved spending time with her family and especially her sisters. She also also enjoyed playing Skip Bo, Dominoes, 42, Farkle, and Rummikub.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 10th from 6:00-8:00p.m. at Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home in Denton. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at the First Baptist Church, 708 W. 5th St, Sanger, TX. Rev. Grant Bowles and Rev. Matthew Bowles, both nephews, will officiate the service.
