Mrs. Shirley Jean Berkness, age 89, of Eagan, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, July 16, 2025 at her home following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born January 4, 1936, in Dawson, MN.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 20 years, Richard Berkness; and brother Gary Lund.
Although a true Minnesota girl, her heart was in Florida with the warm sun, chasing the summer for the better part of 20 years as a Snowbird. She was a world traveler (~80 countries), voracious reader (she loved her James Patterson Novels), and loved fashion (which matched her personality, bold, colorful, and bedazzled). She enjoyed spending time with family and going out with the girls.
Shirley is survived by son Gregory Lulic (Barbara); daughter Lynn Legas (Alan); five grandchildren, Carson Lulic (Julia), Cole Lulic, Cameron Lulic, Alexa Legas Petroff (Christopher), Gabrielle Legas; five great grandchildren, Owen Lulic, Shae Lulic, Marlee Lulic, June Lulic, and Henry Petroff; and two brothers, Roderick Lund and James Lund. She also leaves behind many other family members and friends who will dearly miss her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30am Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Cremation Society of Minnesota - 7110 France Ave S., Edina, MN. Interment will follow at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery at 1:45pm.
The family requests that memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society.
